Looks like my old host racksunlimited decided to get out of the business of hosting and I have now been acquired by https://michtinelabs.com . I can gladly say that I am very happy so far with their support during the move, I did have some down time but that is normal and may have been longer than it needed since I was being too patient and waited to let them know I was having some issues. So I take my hat off to them for finding the issue and correcting it and working with me. If you are looking for a host they may be someone for you to check out

Well, a couple of weeks ago my video card, a XFX GeForce 8600GT XXX, popped two caps, no it didn’t go gangster, it just decided to give up on me. So I replaced it with an XFX ATI 4850 video card which I purchased from Best Buy. I know, I could have bought it from Newegg.com or even Tigerdirect.com, but wanted it now and didn’t want to wait for it. First impressions from the box, says you are buying a mean piece of hardware here, with a Gig of ram on it and a Teraflop of instructions possible, OH YEAH!! Opened the box and took a look at the card itself, Holy Crap, it is a menacing looking little beast, it is a double slot video card, and covered one of my PCI slots, no big deal.

Decided I should install this thing and looked at the two manuals inside the box, I noticed both manuals talked about different aspects and neither talked about the entire install process. One covered the physical install and the other covered the software install, so I installed the software first like many of my hardware installs told me to do, and then installed the hardware. My screen instantly went to an ungodly resolution as it should have but not wide screen. So I checked the properties of the display and it was stated to be a generic VGA card. So I installed the software again, after reboot the display went wide screen and all was well, so install the hardware first and then the software for this card.

Checking out a couple of games I had installed, Halo and Battlefield 2, to see the graphics abilities of the card, and I was pleasantly surprised after some work on my part. Halo just worked fine although the graphics are kinda blocky anyway. Battlefield 2 on the other hand just kept crashing to desktop, on my Server 2008 R2 machine. So I went looking for some help, to which I found not many ideas, so I did what I thought I should do and deleted my profiles, and low and behold, it fired up fine. I set the graphics to full bore in the game and it was pretty stunning, the card ran beautifully. The old 8600 struggled at medium, but the new 4850 runs fine at high quality. So if you want a decent card at a mid level price tag you may want to consider the 4850, unless you can plop down some more money and go for a 5800 series, since this does get you directx 11, which the 4850 only gets you 10.1.

Enjoy!

I decided to give Sensodyne Iso-Active a go a little less than a month ago, since I have a sore tooth and was waiting for a dentist appointment to fix it. Well the toothpaste seems to work very well at relieving my tooth pain which was getting a little bothersome. It does create a bubbly goop in your mouth and does get to every spot in your mouth rather well. My issue with the toothpaste was the cost running around $7 for a smaller than normal space-age press button tube of this stuff, I did have a $1 off coupon so it wasn’t so bad I guess. Then I pressed the button today and barely any toothpaste came out. Granted I brush my teeth twice a day, but I was the only one using the paste and it only lasted me a month, my wife and two sons continued to use a standard toothpaste and it is still going strong. So I am not sold on the value of the toothpaste being very high, although it did solve my tooth pain for a while.

Website for Sensodyne is http://us.sensodyne.com/

http://truelaunchbar.com/ is an incredible piece of software. It takes a Windows Quick Launch bar and gives it a shot of steroids! Giving you the ability to add items to the bar like a clock, network status, battery status, key state (Num Lock etc), calendars, CPU utilization (up to 4 cores), Custom Menus, Media Player controls, and so very much more. Costing about $20 this software is well worth its price. Right now, until January 10th, he is even offering a 30% discount. Notice I said he, that is another of the great things about this software, the developer is VERY active in the forums and open to suggestions. If you have any problems with the software, he is the first one to try to help you. I have been using this software for many years now and have never found anything better.

I just wanted to blog about something that I feel is extremely good, Buffalo Wing Sauce. I have tried a number of them, but one of them is very close to being the best flavor and that is Franks Buffalo Wing sauce. The flavor is incredible and the vinegar taste is perfect. I want to try the Hot version but I have yet to do that.

You can pick it up at Costco right now I believe for like $7 for two 32 ounce bottles. Here is the website http://www.franksredhot.com/products_b.php

Enjoy for New Years!!

I have had the privilege of having the ability to test many different automation tools in my many years of working on computers. From the very simple macro tools which can automate simple typing and clicking and some other simple things, like Robotask and MacroToolworks, to the very complex which can actually download files at set times, inject SQL statements on a SQL server, like Automize and (the point of this blog) VisualCron. VisualCron’s website is over at http://www.visualcron.com/Home.aspx. Their website is very professional and full of information. Since I am a simple home user of this software currently I would have to say the price is fairly stiff at $197 for a single server, but to be fair, in a business environment the value of the software far outweighs the price. This software can do just about anything you can imagine. The features are very well documented on the website, http://www.visualcron.com/Features.aspx. Some of the features that the software has include, the ability to execute applications (either locally or on a server), perform FTP/FTPS/SFTP functions of all types, perform backups and copies of files, compress files and folders through Zip/Tar/GZIP, encrypt and decrypt files, and even execute macros from within Microsoft Office applications. That is just a small subset of the features available in the program as there are plenty of other features like scheduling, flow control, plenty of notifications, and a large amount of other things available.

Now let us cover the interface of the program, it is a very pretty application, it makes use of an Office 2007 style ribbon at the top and a very nice implementation of themes. This app is one of the prettiest I have seen. It is very easy to use this software, it almost leads you to creating the “cron job”. Creating a job is rather intuitive, for the simple ones I have made, although I am quite sure that it gets more complicated to make them as the job gets more complicated.

Support is another aspect of applications that needs to be looked at, I cannot speak to the support of the staff at visualcron first hand, but what I can say is that they have created a rather active forum to help to address any issues that you may have, and someone may have already addressed that on their own and could help you with the issue themselves, that is if the staff do not help you first. They have plenty of documentation and tutorials to help you get acclimated to the software. They even have downloadable help files in pdf and windows help file so you can get help without the internet.

I hope that This review of a great piece of software helps you make a decision whether or not to buy it, but I do think the website is the best place for information about this software. Remember the website for VisualCron is http://www.visualcron.com/

Have a great day!

Notepad++ is a great FREE Windows Notepad replacement. Giving you multiple tabs for files and also has many different plugins extending the usage of the text editor by quite a bit, including file compare and many others. Notepad++ also color codes text if you are coding in one of the many built in programming languages including PHP and HTML and MANY others. Try it for yourself and see what I mean.
